NAME: PATRIK SCHICK
NATIONALITY: CZECH REPUBLIC
CURRENT ABLIITY: ★★★
POTENTIAL ABILITY: ★★★★
The athletic Czech striker has made quiet the impact in Serie A since joining Sampdoria last summer. The 21-year-old has scored 9 goals in 26 appearances this season – mainly as a substitute, but his hard graft and work ethic have endeared him to the fans at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
At 6’1 you’d be forgiven to think Schick is just another target man. He’s deceivingly quick for a man his height and possess the dribbling skills to worry opposition defenders – averaging 54% of successful take-ons per game. His end product is not too shabby either – with a 75% pass accuracy for the season and 2 assists to his name Schick clearly possess the ability to be an all-round striker. His finishing however will have to improve if he is to be starting more games in the future – 7 of his goals have come in Serie A, averaging a goal every 4 shots. His playstyle lends a lot to why he has enjoyed a successful time so far. Happy to play with his back to goal and drop deep to link up play, Schick gives Sampdoria the perfect partner to the pacey Luis Muriel.
Big things are destined for the Czech Republic international, and Serie A may well be the perfect surroundings for him to hone his skills. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Schick hit 11 or 12 goals by the end of the season, and for a debut season in a new league at the age of 21, that’s a tidy return. Signed for just £4m, there isn’t the burden of a hefty price tag on his head, and with opportunities a plenty at Sampdoria, next season could prove to be a breakthrough for the talented striker.
